Nom assez rare porté dans les Pyrénées-Atlantiques. C'est un ancien nom de baptême, popularisé par saint Galactoire, qui fut évêque de Lescar au début du VIe siècle et aurait été martyrisé par les Wisigoths à Mimizan, en 506. Etymologie obscure (apparemment le grec galactos = lait).
